Sebastian Szewczyk Mathews was born and raised in Wadowice, near the city of Krakow (Cracov) in Poland. At the age of 18 he moved to New York City where he became involved with private gallery openings. His educational path took him to the University of Hawaii at Kapi'olani followed by receiving a dual major with honors from Amherst College in Massachusetts.
